The World of Humans Art Contest with Cash Prize

The World of Humans' author Dylan Wheeler, myself, is hosting an art contest. I open this opportunity to all aspiring amateur artists. This contest is a dual coin, first and foremost it's goal is to support the artistic community in a small but measurable way, and I hope that it impacts the artist and inspires them to continue creating. Secondly, I am looking for an original work to use to promote my blog. It will be used for the blog itself online, and for promotion purposes such as merchandise and business cards.

Winner Details:

Cash prize is $100 (USD) plus royalties.

A royalty of $0.05 (USD) will be paid per business card printed that uses any portion of the work.

Also the artist will receive full royalty from websites such as zazzle.com used to create blog merchandise.

A link to the artist's website or other account will be affixed to the website's homepage.

The Art:

The core of the work will be a visual representation of the Earth as viewed from space. Not a map or a globe, but the planet itself. Details will be left up to the artist.

The work should remain positive and optimistic in nature. Bright colors are encouraged.

The interpretation of the Earth should include some indicator to the presence and impact of human life.

The work must be 2-dimensional, however any medium may be used (paint, pen, pencil, charcoal, digital, etc) as the artist sees fit.

Creativity is encouraged, it should be original and thought provoking. However, it should be somewhat moderate, e.i. not 'abstract art' or hyper-modernistic. Also, it should reflect the ideology of the blog, and the artist is encouraged to read the blog's posts to get a feel for what is desired.

All submissions will be in electronic format and sent to me at wheeler123g@gmail.com, it is recommended this be taken into consideration when medium for the art is selected.

Subject line: “TWOH Art Contest”. You are also encouraged to email me with your intent to submit a piece, this will help me get a better idea of how many contestants there will be, and an idea of when to post a deadline, which will be updated on a later date.

The art will be in three portions of three ratios:

1800pixels by 1800pixels (background ratio),

850-960pixels by 350pixels (banner ratio), and

3 5/16 inches by 2 1/8 inches (or a scalable, equivalent ratio) (business card size).

These may be scaled/cropped/altered versions of the same piece or (preferably) separate pieces with the same theme and style.

ANY AND ALL PLAGIARISM WILL BE REPORTED!

Participation in the contest is not legally binding, however if your work is selected as the winning piece, you will be required to sign a contract to receive your prize, royalties, and to authorize the art for use to promote the blog. You retain your right to sell your art and otherwise distribute it as you see fit. A full version of the contract is available upon request if you wish to read it before submitting your work.
